QS-BT1 is a direct-drive belt tensioner designed to add a powerful layer of realism to sim racing by applying controlled harness tension based on in-game telemetry. QS-BT1 is a direct-drive belt tensioner with two independently controlled channels, each delivering up to 200 N. Game telemetry drives harness tension to reproduce braking, cornering load, wheel slip, engine vibration and road-surface effects. Available effects depend on the data supplied by the game. The device can work independently of a motion platform.

During prolonged braking, QS-BT1 maintains belt tension, making the load on your body more noticeable even when the manoeuvre lasts several seconds. Two independently controlled channels vary the tension in each belt, enhancing the sensations of cornering and braking into a turn. When paired with a motion platform, the two devices complement each other: the platform reproduces movement and tilt, while the tensioner adds force through the belts. This allows the platform to rely less on tilt to simulate sustained acceleration, leaving more of its range of motion available for other effects. QS-BT1 can also operate on its own, adding sensations of braking, cornering loads, loss of traction, gear changes and engine vibration to a stationary cockpit — depending on the telemetry provided by the game.

The supplied universal adapter supports installation on compatible aluminium-profile cockpits; some platforms require a dedicated mounting kit. A suitable harness must be purchased separately. Mounting, belt routing and the Motion-Lock connection must follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Qubic Manager Software

Qubic Manager is software developed by the hardware manufacturer to configure and operate the QS-BT1 belt tensioner. It works with many racing and flight simulators on PC; the list of supported games grows with software updates.

Profiles and settings let you adjust belt tension and effect intensity to your preferences.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it require a motion platform?

QS-BT1 does an excellent job without any motion platform in all applications except reproducing the sensation of forward acceleration. If you wish to feel forward acceleration, then it is recommended to have additional equipment such as a motion platform or a DIY Wind Sim.

Is it compatible with QS-210 and QS-220?

Yes, it is. It is compatible with all motion platforms powered by MotionSystems technology, including QS, PS and Next Level Racing® Motion Platform V3. However, for seat-moving platforms (seat movers), there are some limitations regarding mounting options (top frame only, close to the pivot point) and in all cases the weight of QS-BT1 counts toward the platform’s payload capacity.

Is it compatible with QS-CH1, QS-V20 and QS-S25?

Yes. Mounting the QS-BT1 on a QS-CH1, QS-V20 or QS-S25 requires a dedicated bracket kit, which is not included in the standard QS-BT1 package. A dedicated mounting kit is also available for the Next Level Racing® Motion Platform V3. Contact us to choose the right kit for your setup.

Is it compatible with PS-6TM-xxxx and PS-6TL-xxxx?

Yes, it is, but custom-made mounting brackets are essential because PS motion platforms do not come equipped with standardized cockpits.

Can I install QS-BT1 behind the seat at shoulder height?

Technically yes, but there are some limitations and virtually no benefits: – When you have a static rig, it does not really matter, but for all rigs that utilize motion platforms, it is always recommended to keep the center of gravity as low as possible. Therefore QS-BT1 should be mounted on the rig, not the seat. – For seat movers, it is not allowed as it would increase the moment of inertia drastically. QS-BT1 must be mounted on the top frame as close to the pivot point as possible, to keep the moment of inertia in check. – The installation location does not really affect whether the belt pulls your shoulders down or back, as it depends on the height of the seat’s belt slots relative to your shoulders.

Does it come with an integrated seat belt?

No, the harness must be purchased separately. The QS-BT1 connects to the rear section of your harness using a short length of webbing extending from the device. The harness itself remains secured to the cockpit at its standard mounting points — the tensioner does not replace these mountings. Install both the harness and the tensioner according to the instructions.

Do I need a 4-point, 5-point or 6-point seat belt?

For the QS-BT1, we recommend a 5- or 6-point harness with adjusters — when properly fitted, it stays in place more securely for a more comfortable driving experience. A 4-point harness can theoretically work too, but depending on your body shape, it may ride upwards and cause discomfort. With a 5- or 6-point harness, the lower mounting point must be positioned correctly so that you feel the tension on your shoulders rather than between your legs. Whichever model you choose, make sure the harness fits properly and is installed according to the instructions.

Will QS-BT1 pull me back or down?

The direction of the pull depends on the height of the seat’s belt slots relative to your shoulders. In driving simulators, the slots should be at shoulder height so that the belts pull you horizontally backwards. In flight simulators, slots positioned below your shoulders allow the belts to pull you downwards. QS-BT1 comes with low-friction inserts for the seat belt slots that reduce the friction (so you are pulled back rather than the seat being pulled down) and with a low-friction bridge that might help you to adjust the height of the belt’s turning point and compensate for an unusual shape of the seat belt slots.

How do you prevent the system from pulling too hard and hurting the user?

QS-BT1 has several complementary safeguards. The motors and power supply were selected to provide the required belt tension, while the difference in their nominal voltages limits motor speed. The pulling force was chosen with both perceptible effects and user safety in mind. The dual-channel Motion-Lock system with self-testing allows QS-BT1, compatible QS motion platforms and QS-DD-20 to be connected in a shared Motion-Lock circuit. Software watchdogs complement the hardware safeguards.

What capabilities/effects are supported for racing simulators?

If the game provides the necessary data, the QS-BT1 supports the following effects: braking, lateral accelerations, centrifugal force during cornering, wheel slip and wheel lock, rev limiter, engine vibrations, gear change, side slip, traction loss, oversteer, vertical g-force, road harshness, pre-impact protection.

Why use direct drive instead of a gearbox-based solution?

Direct drive allows the motor torque, and therefore belt tension, to be controlled without an intermediate gearbox. This avoids gearbox backlash and resistance and supports detailed force feedback. The design does not require a separate belt-force sensor or initial position calibration.

What does it mean that QS-BT1 is plug and play?

It means that just a few steps (8 to be exact) are required to fully enjoy the product, and no specialized IT knowledge is required to configure the system and PC. 1) Attach QS-BT1 to your cockpit. 2) Attach a seat belt of your choice to QS-BT1, taking the limitations into account. 3) Connect the power supply. 4) Connect the USB cable. 5) Connect the Motion-Lock circuit. 6) Turn on the system. 7) Download and install ForceSeatPM/Qubic Manager. 8) Start a game. If the game has to be configured first, ForceSeatPM/Qubic Manager will do it for you.

Does it work with Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5?

QS-BT1 can be used with Gran Turismo 7 on PlayStation 5, but a Windows PC is also required to receive telemetry data from the game and control the belt tensioner. GT7 support is provided as is, with no guarantee that it will remain available. Support may end if the game stops providing telemetry data. If you want to use another game on PlayStation or Xbox, contact us before purchasing so we can check compatibility with your specific setup.

Does QS-BT1 work with motion platforms and accessories made by third-party manufacturers?

Yes, it does. For most games, integration is seamless but even if the game sends telemetry data only to a single UDP port, then ForceSeatPM/Qubic Manager is equipped with a UDP data-forwarding module that will solve the issue.

Can it be controlled from SimTools, Sim Racing Studio or SimHub?

Not directly. QS-BT1 is controlled by Qubic Manager or ForceSeatPM, which use profiles developed individually for each supported game. It can also work with Next Level Racing® Platform Manager in a suitable setup. The software controlling QS-BT1 can run alongside SimHub, SimTools or Sim Racing Studio, so you can continue using those programs to control your other devices.
